Our project is to select and develop the most cost effective and accurate POCT and detection devices for mass production and distribution around the world. We are currently working with a number of partners, individuals, and scientists, to enable the best minds to work together. We have spent thousands of hours reviewing advances around the world in a race to find more accurate detection methods for pathogenic diseases, particularly the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), with fast results to be delivered at a low cost.
Examin has engaged in extensive research over the last 3 years, reviewing scientific papers on a daily basis and communicating with a significant number of respected scientists and organisations. Airborne disease transmission, the processes governing it, and the development of protective measures against it, are less understood than transmission via water, food, arthropod and zoonotic vectors, and direct contact with infected individuals.
Inspired by Zika virus research, Examin and our partners are working together to adapt their technology to detect COVID-19 and other diseases using simple user-friendly and cost effective devices. Our most exciting design has been our POC (point of care) breathalyser handset, which will be capable of a real-time, fully non-invasive test that can be completed in less than 2 minutes. The device will be portable, with rates of accuracy matching that of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests, without any need for the reagents that current laboratory and home antigen tests require. The device will detect the virus even in the early stages of infection, and is not limited to any particular strain.
Although the main focus of our research and development has been toward COVID-19, considering the devastating effects of the ongoing global pandemic, a key advantage of our technology has been it’s potential for agile and adaptable design. Our design will allow us to pivot from COVID-19 to the detection of other diseases as needed by our customers. Tuberculosis and Zika virus have been of particular interest to us, but they are merely two of many diseases that our products could be adapted to detect.
